Count to Fire recorded their album In Another Life at Catherine North Studios with Colin Cripps, Michael Chambers (me) and Dan Hosh. “I’m The Man You Need” was my favourite song during the tracking sessions. There was just something about the feel or the melody or the combination that made this track stand out. Enjoy.

Little Jackie Wright has released their first “official music video.” Long Ride is the title track of the band’s debut EP that was released last year. Parts of the video were shot at Catherine North. Enjoy.

Toronto-based, Iranian-born singer-songwriter néGar’s self-titled debut EP is available now. néGar started working with Goldilocks (the production team Dan Achen and Ian Smith) in the fall of 2009. Two of the songs on the record, “One Minute” and “Faceless Nameless” were started just about the time Dan passed away. The album is dedicated to Dan, and it’s so wonderful to see that’s it now available. Dan would have been proud of the final product.

Also, last summer a video for “Faceless Nameless” was shot here at Catherine North. It’s being used for the trailer for upcoming thriller film called Bluebird. Here is the video. Enjoy.

When Steve Winnall and Allison Smith contacted us about recordoing BowTie‘s debut EP last spring I was excited to be a part of the project. Steve had told me the main reason they chose Catherine North was that they loved the sound of City and Colour’s Bring Me Your Love. So how funny it was that the mixing of BowTie’s EP was delayed due to Dallas Green coming back to record City and Colour’s upcoming release Little Hell.

BowTie’s EP, Sequins, will be released April 1, 2011. A preview of their songs can be heard on their myspace page, and one of the tracks is featured in the video below.

Last spring, a great musician and producer, Dan Achen, sadly passed away. Dan produced some great records in his time, including City and Colour’s acclaimed record Bring Me Your Love, and The Coppertone’s Hidden Dreams.

Recently I was approached by my friend Amanda Zelina (The Coppertone), who was looking to pay tribute to Dan in the form of a video. Amanda and Dallas Green of City and Colour came together to pay their respects to their friend and producer, and we recorded a cover of Mississippi Fred McDowell’s “When I Lay My Burden Down.”

This is truly an incredible song and it was really amazing to be involved in this event.

At long last… we’ve released our very first official MashUP video, and we’re now hard at work planning the next MashUP slated for September 10, 2010. Stay tuned for more information.

On June 11 we invited songwriters Karyn Ellis and Ian Smith to participate in the first ever Catherine North MashUP. Karyn and Ian wrote, rehearsed, and recorded a song in 60 minutes — all in front of a live audience.
